The Department of Physical Education and Sport Science at the University of Thessaly (UTH) demonstrates a strong dynamic in research and its global impact. According to a reputable study recently published by the internationally renowned Professor at Stanford University, John Ioannidis (August 2024), six professors from the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science are ranked among the top 2% of researchers and scientists worldwide.
These are Professor Athanasios Ziamourtas, Professor Athanasios Papaiouannou, Professor Marina Papastergiou, Professor Ioannis Fatouros, Professor Andreas Flouris, and Emeritus Professor Ioannis Koutedakis, whose scientific work has been deemed to contribute significantly to the advancement of science globally (read the article here). A total of 43 professors from the University of Thessaly are included in the same list, a notable increase from last year's list, where 37 professors from UTH were ranked.
The representation of the Department, with six members at the top of researchers-scientists globally, is the largest among all departments of the University of Thessaly and other Physical Education and Sport Science departments in the country. These six professors make up 22% of the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science reflecting part of the department's dynamic, which includes colleagues with distinctions on other international lists as well.
This achievement fills us with joy, and warm congratulations are due to our colleagues, whose work highlights our Department, the University of Thessaly, and our country.
