The University of Thessaly has recorded a significant European achievement in the field of agrifood innovation. The research team of the Plant Health Management Lab of the Department of Agriculture – Agrotechnology was distinguished at the Grand Final of the EIT Food Seedbed Incubator 2025, receiving the “Best Market Discovery Journey” award at the event held in Warsaw.
The EIT Food Seedbed Incubator, an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) of the European Union, is one of the most important European support mechanisms for early-stage agrifood innovation teams. Participation in the programme follows a highly competitive selection process and includes intensive training, mentoring, and systematic market discovery and validation activities.
At the Warsaw final, the University of Thessaly team achieved the highest overall score among 15 finalists from across Europe and was awarded the “Best Market Discovery Journey” prize, accompanied by a €3,500 monetary award. The distinction recognises the team’s progress and strategic approach in exploring the market potential of MultiBioCrop, a next-generation organic product for crop nutrition and protection.
The research team consists of Professor Panagiotis Eliopoulos, Laboratory Director, Dr. Spyros Mantzoukas (Researcher C, HAO–DEMETER), and Dimitrios Natsiopoulos and Ilias Platis, members of the Laboratory Teaching Staff.
This European distinction highlights the University of Thessaly’s strong capacity to transform scientific research into innovative, market-oriented solutions, reinforcing the institution’s role within the European research, innovation, and sustainable agrifood development ecosystem.
