On June 18, 2025, we welcomed high-ranking representatives from Indonesia’s public health service provider, BPJS Kesehatan, for the signing of a Memorandum of Scientific Cooperation.
BPJS Kesehatan is the main public health organization in Indonesia and operates directly under the President of the country. The organization, which provides healthcare coverage to 98% of Indonesia’s population, is interested in developing systems for the detection, investigation, and elimination of waste and corruption in the health sector.
Representing the University of Thessaly at the meeting were:
- Professor Chrysi Laspidou, Vice-Rector for Innovation, Internationalization, Partnerships, and Digital Governance,
- Professor Vasileios P. Plagianakos, Dean of the School of Science, former President of the National Organization for Healthcare Services Provision (EOPYY) and of the European Healthcare Fraud & Corruption Network (EHFCN),
- Associate Professor Sotirios Tasoulis, Department of Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics, and
- Assistant Professor Spyridon Georgakopoulos, Department of Mathematics.
Representing the Indonesian Public Health Organization were:
- Dr. Mundiharno, Director of Compliance and Inter-Institutional Relations,
- Arief Witjaksono Juwono, Director of Finance and Investment,
- Dian Jabar Syabani, Special Advisor Staff, and
- Ratih Puspadewi Suherman, Secretary.
Following the signing of the Memorandum, discussions focused on initiatives in the field of Artificial Intelligence aimed at combating fraud and corruption in healthcare. Both parties agreed to implement joint actions, exchange best practices, and provide technical expertise. Demonstrations were held on advanced systems and computational intelligence algorithms for public health service provision, developed by members of the Intelligent Systems Laboratory at the University of Thessaly.
Finally, it was requested and agreed that members of the University of Thessaly would participate as invited speakers at the upcoming Indonesian Anti-Fraud Forum 2026.
