Welcome to the website of the Center for Foreign Languages (FLC) of the University of Thessaly!
Here you will find information about the aims, administration, staff and course program of the FLC.
The Foreign Languages Center is a modern structure of the University of Thessaly that aims to promote language teaching and learning for special academic and scientific purposes. The main objective of the FLC is to strengthen and highlight good practices in area of teaching foreign languages, in an effort to serve the real needs of students and of the entire academic community.
More specific goals of the Foreign Language Center are the following:
- Teaching foreign languages (English, French, German, Italian) for academic and professional purposes to all members of the academic community of the University of Thessaly.
- Promotion of multilingualism and multiculturalism, in order to achieve the interconnection of the local academic community with the global one.
- Teaching the greek language to foreign students, who carry out part of their studies at the University of Thessaly, in the framework of the Erasmus+ Program or other Educational Programs.
- Implementation of research projects and organization of conferences, workshops, seminars, symposia and lectures.
- Implementation of bilateral inter-university agreements with corresponding foreign language research centers abroad, with the aim of staff mobility for training and teaching.
- Cooperation with social and scientific bodies, at national and international level.
Structure
The Foreign Language Centre was founded in 2017 as an expansion of the activities of the older "Foreign Languages Office". It is an academic unit under the supervision of the Vice-Rector responsible for Internationalization matters. It is managed by a 5-member Administrative Board, consisting of three Professors or Associate Professors and two members of the Special Teaching Staff, appointed by the Senate and following the Rector's recommendation.
The Chairman of the Board is appointed by the Members of the Board and they are both appointed for a two years term.
The Foreign Language Centre operates according to its Internal Regulation which is approved by the Senate and is part of the Internal Regulation of the University of Thessaly.
