Strategic Planning Unit of the University of Thessaly
The Strategic Planning Unit of the University of Thessaly is the institutional body responsible for drafting, monitoring, and updating the University’s Strategic Plan, in full compliance with the national legislative framework (article 216 of Law 4957/2022).
The Unit supports the University in policy design and operational planning, aiming at academic excellence, social contribution, internationalization, and sustainable development. It also contributes to strengthening the University’s position in international rankings, aligning the developmental plans of the academic Departments with the overall Strategic Plan, and monitoring the University’s programmatic agreements with the Ministry of Education.
Strategic Plan 2024–2027
The current Strategic Plan of the University of Thessaly (2024–2027) is structured around eight strategic priority areas and reflects the University’s vision and mission to remain a modern, pioneering European university, with a focus on:
- enhancing the educational experience,
- advancing research and innovation,
- promoting internationalization and outreach,
- fostering sustainable and digital development,
- ensuring inclusiveness, equality, and quality assurance.
Accompanying Plans
This page also publishes the three specialized annexes of the Strategic Plan:
- Sustainable Development Plan (2025–2030): sets out the directions for environmental responsibility, circular economy, climate neutrality, and overall sustainability of the University.
- Equal Access Plan: ensures physical, educational, and digital accessibility for persons with disabilities and/or special educational needs, strengthening equality and participation in academic life.
- Digital Transformation Plan: outlines actions for enhancing digital infrastructure and services, connecting with society and public administration, and building a green and sustainable university through technology.
Mission of the SPU
The Unit operates as a strategic governance hub for the University, ensuring that all actions remain coherent, measurable (through Key Performance Indicators), and adaptable to the evolving needs of society, the economy, and higher education.
By publishing the Strategic Plan and its three accompanying annexes, the SPU makes the strategic planning process of the University of Thessaly transparent, participatory, and open to the academic community and society at large.
