UNIVERSITY OF THESSALY CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE (UTh CI) was established in 2019, under an agreement between University of Thessaly and Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), in co-operation with Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) in Beijing.
UTh CI engages in various language and culture courses offering useful knowledge for students and professionals. UTh CI organizes different kinds of events where the forms of traditional Chinese culture such as art, music, literature, medicine, religion, and philosophy are presented.
UTH CI also offers public lectures delivered by distinguished scholars from China and Europe in the Sino-Greek Research Center for Sustainable Urban & Regional Development that was established at the Confucius Institute of the University of Thessaly on the 8th of November 2021 in cooperation with the Central University of Finance and Economics based in Beijing.
The Sino-Greek Research Center for Sustainable Urban & Regional Development is active in a wide range of research areas involving development processes and has strong policy relevance. Its research includes the spatial dimension of growth performance, regional dynamics, structural change and rebooting, global challenges for cities and regions, resilience and sustainability of productive systems, urban restructuring and change, and the design of effective development policies at all spatial levels. To this end, Sino-Greek Research Center for Sustainable Urban & Regional Development deploys appropriate quantitative and qualitative research methods, including spatial data analysis, econometric modeling, and surveys, and develops significant databases at the micro, firm, regional and urban levels. Research at Sino-Greek Research Center for Sustainable Urban & Regional Development has a local-global character, as it combines locality and regional-level development challenges with European or Asian mega-trends and market or policy dynamics.
UTh CI aims to serve as a bridge between Greece and China in the domain of education, culture, and business. By bringing together these two great civilizations and historic nations, we support business, local government, and community bodies in developing links with China through language training, cultural immersion, and networking.
