The University of Thessaly's “Library and Information Centre" (LIC) operates as a unified, self-reliant, decentralized unit at a local level, situated in Volos. Administratively, it lies under the University's Rector. The LIC's mission is to enhance and support the educational and research activities of the University, to contribute to the retrieval, management, supply, and dissemination of specialized information to the wider national and international community and to actively participate in various activities for education and culture.
The LIC operates as a single unit of academic services and consists of the Central Library in Volos with branches at Schools or groups of Schools in the cities of Volos, Larissa, Trikala, Karditsa and Lamia, all of which are administratively subordinate to the Central Library, forming a unified whole in terms of human resources, as well as policies concerning development and fund management.
The LIC offers its services to all members of the academic community of the University of Thessaly, as well as interested members of the general public, on condition that it possesses the necessary funds and human resources.
