The Internship and Career Office of the University of Thessaly and Professor Chrysi Laspidou, Vice-Rector for Innovation, Internationalization, Partnerships, and Digital Governance of the University of Thessaly, organized the "Career Day" event yesterday, Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the Domotel Xenia Hotel in Volos, offering a unique opportunity for students and graduates to connect with the business world.
In response to the ever-changing demands of the job market, this event served as a strong bridge between academic knowledge and professional careers, enhancing the prospects for the immediate employment of graduates in competitive sectors. The purpose of the event was to bring students and graduates of the University of Thessaly into direct contact with representatives from 33 major companies in the country, allowing them to meet in person and discuss career and internship opportunities.
The Rector of the University of Thessaly, Professor Charalambos Billinis, stated that "students and graduates of the institution connected with companies to take the first step in their careers. This is one of the events we had promised as an administration. The employment absorption rate of our graduates, at least in the departments for which we have data, is satisfactory, particularly in the fields of healthcare, information technology, and engineering." He also mentioned that the Internship and Career Office will be further organized to collect more effective data on graduate employment. Meanwhile, Vice-Rector Laspidou noted that "we made a great effort this year and brought in 33 companies with a strong presence in their respective industries. Our goal is to enhance the work of the Career Office, and we are now submitting a new proposal under the EU funding program (ESPA) with additional initiatives. Our core product is our graduates. The presence of these 33 companies at 'Career Day' demonstrates that they are interested in hiring. We helped students build their resumes, prepare for interviews, and understand market demands. From this event, we see that companies are actively looking for personnel, even for positions in Volos. Additionally, some senior students are interested in internships. Overall, we are very excited about the response."
Priority at the event was given to senior students and graduates of the University of Thessaly, who had the opportunity to participate in one-on-one interviews with the Human Resources departments of the attending companies. Participants benefited from networking opportunities, job and internship openings, as well as career guidance and counseling. Once again, the University of Thessaly strengthened its ties with the job market, developed strategic partnerships, and reaffirmed the high quality of its services by investing in the education and careers of its students.
As the event was open to the public, graduates from other universities also attended, expressing their interest in connecting with experienced company executives.
