The Department of Economics at the University of Thessaly proudly announces the awarding of the Jean Monnet Chair in Energy and Climate Policy in the Eastern Mediterranean (EU-CP-EM), under the leadership of Professor Andreas Stergiou and his team, which includes Professor Ch. Kollias, Professor S. Zouboulakis, Dr. P. Vergos, and PhD candidates Anastasia Papadimou and Vasileios Avramopoulos.

The Jean Monnet Chair, supported by the European Union, aims to promote education and research on EU policies related to climate and energy, with a special focus on developments and challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Objectives of the Jean Monnet Chair:

  1. Development of Innovative Education: Introducing a comprehensive study of European integration at the University of Thessaly for the first time, with a focus on energy and climate policies.
  2. Creation of a Scientific Forum: Enhancing academic dialogue and awareness regarding EU policies in the Thessaly region.
  3. Raising Awareness on Climate Change: Highlighting environmental challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean and informing the public about EU actions.
  4. Promotion of Renewable Energy Sources: Supporting the sustainable use of natural resources and advancing solutions beyond fossil fuels.

The awarding of this Jean Monnet Chair represents significant recognition of the University of Thessaly’s research and academic contributions and is expected to strengthen its position as a center of excellence in European energy and climate policies.
