The international Summer School “EmpowerEd: Mental Health and Inclusion for Modern Learners” was successfully completed, co-organized by the University of Thessaly and the educational organization College Year in Athens (CYA). Academic lead of the program was Professor Georgia Andreou, member of the University’s Governing Board, with teaching and course coordination by Professor Elias Avramidis and Assistant Professor Christina Roussi from the Department of Special Education at the University of Thessaly.

The program took place in the city of Volos from June 24 to July 19, 2025, with the participation of 13 students — 9 from the United States and 4 Greek students from the University of Thessaly.

The Summer School focused on the concept of inclusive education and the promotion of mental health in the learning process. Through an intensive 60-hour program, participants explored both theoretical and practical issues related to social participation, emotional learning, resilience-building, and the creation of supportive, inclusive school environments.

The successful completion of the program highlights the University of Thessaly’s strong commitment to internationalization and outreach, as well as its strategic focus on inclusion, mental health, and engagement with both local and global communities.

Congratulations to everyone involved for the excellent organization and successful outcome of the Summer School!
