The Department of Medicine of the University of Thessaly was founded in 1985 and the first students were enrolled in the academic year of 1990-1991. It was the founding Department in the development of the School of Health Sciences of the University of Thessaly, and it has been autonomously operating in Larissa since 1995. The Department of Medicine has an Undergraduate & Postgraduate programme of Study (with more than 25 Postgraduate MSc Programs and more than 400 PhD students). The new facilities of the Department of Medicine in the Biopolis campus were launched in 2008 and include pre-clinical laboratories, classrooms, teaching Halls, tutorial rooms and administrative services, located in a beautiful surrounding in the city suburb. The Biopolis campus is also located right adjacent to the University General Hospital of Larissa, which provides a comprehensive range of services to emergency and elective patients on an inpatient, outpatient and day care basis, committed to fostering the education of medical students at each level of their educational process.
