The Volunteers of the University of Thessaly continue to actively support the local community through various actions, demonstrating their commitment to giving back. The autumn of 2024 was marked by their active participation in three significant social initiatives organized in collaboration with the Metropolis of Demetrias and Almyros.
Participation in the First Festival of the Informal Health Network
On September 6th and 7th, 2024, the Volunteers of the University of Thessaly attended the 1st Festival of the Informal Healthcare Network of the Holy Metropolis of Demetrias and Almyros. During the festival, the volunteers informed attendees about their initiatives and contributed to collecting samples for the registration of volunteer bone marrow donors, in collaboration with the NGO "Nikos Chalkias - A Hero for Many." Through this effort, 77 new samples were collected, boosting the search for compatible donors.
Medical Care with Free Examinations
On September 18th, 2024, the Volunteers of the University of Thessaly participated in another important initiative, providing free examinations. This action offered medical care to dozens of residents, once again highlighting the importance of collective action and offering to the local community.
Actions for the International Day of Older People
The latest volunteer action took place on October 2nd, 2024, when the team participated in an excellent initiative in honor of the International Day of Older People. At the Nursing Home of the Holy Metropolis of Demetrias and Almyros, the Sourligkeio Foundation in Kanalia, volunteers collaborated with "KoinSEp zVolos" and the 11th Kindergarten of Volos to create a bridge of communication between young children and the elderly, promoting intergenerational interaction. The day ended with a fun game of Bingo, bringing smiles to the residents of the nursing home.
