Dr. Angeliki H. Katsafadou, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public and One Health at the University of Thessaly, specializing in "Proteomics in One Health," has been honored with the prestigious Fulbright Scholar Fellowship. She is conducting research as a visiting professor at the Yale School of Public Health, focusing on public health risks linked to soil and water quality following severe flooding events.
Dr. Katsafadou is the only faculty member from the University of Thessaly to receive this fellowship for the 2024–2025 academic year. Her research employs advanced -omics technologies to identify relevant biomarkers, aiming to shed light on the environmental impacts on health through the One Health approach. This six-month project, running from October 2024 to March 2025, is being conducted in collaboration with Professor Vasilis Vasiliou.
As part of this program, Dr. Katsafadou was invited to speak at the Fall 2024 Cleveland Fulbright Scholar Enrichment Seminar, held December 3–6, 2024, in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. The seminar’s theme was Innovations in Public Health, and she was one of only eight Fulbright Scholars—and the sole representative from Greece—selected to present her work among 130 participants. Her presentation emphasized the critical role of training health professionals in interdisciplinary One Health approaches, particularly in addressing challenges posed by climate change.
This recognition highlights the importance of the research conducted by the Department of Public and One Health at the University of Thessaly, reaffirming the academic excellence and high standards of its faculty. It is a significant achievement that enhances the Department’s and the University’s reputation within the international research community.
We extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. Katsafadou and wish her continued success!
