Ethics Committee
Ethics Committee
The Ethics Committee of the University of Thessaly was reestablished and operates by decision 89/30-09-2025 of the Administrative Body and according to article 217 of Law 4957/2022, as completed with paragraph e of article 87 of Law 8094/2024.
The Ethics Committee is mainly responsible for:

Preparing the “Code of Ethical Conduct and Good Practice” on all ethics related issues, academic, administrative and research, approved by the Senate of the University of Thessaly and incorporated in the Internal Regulation of the Institution,

Ensuring the compliance and implementation of the Code of Conduct for all parts of the members of the academic community and ascertaining infringements of the Code of Ethics

Redacting an annual report on compliance and implementation or proposal for amendment of the Code of Ethics, which is submitted to the Rector and communicated to the Senate of the Institution for consideration, in the beginning of each academic year.

Examining ex-officio or after receiving a written complaint by students, members of the Teaching and Research Staff (Δ.Ε.Π.), members of the Specialized Teaching Staff (Ε.Ε.Π.), Laboratory Teaching Staff (Ε.ΔΙ.Π.), Specialized Technical Laboratory Staff (Ε.Τ.Ε.Π.), all categories of teaching and research staff (including adjunct staff), and administrative and technical staff on issues within its remit, in order to ascertain any infringement of the Code of Ethics or investigates relevant incidents by order of the Rector. If any infringement of the Code of Ethics or any disciplinary offense is findings to the Rector, in order for the Rector to assess the incident and take legal action.

Preparing the “Conflicts of Interest Regulation and Incident Response Protocols for Fraud and Corruption” in collaboration with the Student Advocate of article 30, which is approved by decision of the Administrative Body and incorporated in the Internal Regulation of the Institution.
The Internal Regulations of the University of Thessaly regulate any other issue related to the constitution and operation of the Ethics Committee.

The Committee’s scope includes:

All Ethics related issues contained in the approved Code of Ethical Conduct and Good Practice, voted and approved by the Senate of the University of Thessaly in the 310th/30-08-2024 meeting.

All issues included in the code of Ethics and Professional Conduct for Greek Public Sector Employees prepared by the Green Ministry of Internal Affairs in collaboration with the Greek National Transparency Authority and after consultation with the Citizen’s Advocate.
Internal Ethics Committee
Every Department of the University of Thessaly constitutes a 3-member internal Ethics sub-committee, according to decisions made by the Senate in the 6th/9-10-2018 and 53rd/23-10-2019 meetings.
Each sub-committee, in every Department, deals with matters of confidentiality, respect of personal data and other rules of ethics and ethical conduct of theses, dissertations and papers.
