Study Program of the Department of Business Administration of the TEI of Thessaly (Larissa)

Πρόγραμμα σπουδών Τμήματος Διοίκησης Επιχειρήσεων ΤΕΙ Θεσσαλίας (Λάρισα)

The former Department of Business Administration of the former School of Management and Economics of the former TEI of Thessaly (now University of Thessaly), located in Larissa, was created by the merger of the Departments of Business Administration, Project Management and Tourism Enterprises (Official Government Gazette 123/Α΄/3−6−2013).

The former Department of Business Administration offered two introductory Major programmes (with a separate number of admissions):

a) Tourism and Hospitality Management

b) Business Administration, which has three advanced semester Minor options, namely, Business Administration, Marketing, and Project Management.

Objectives and Content

The Major programme in Business Administration, on the basis of the Minor options offered, addresses the following areas of knowledge:

1. Strategic Management, Business Administration, Human Resources Management.

2. Economics, Finance and Accounting.

3. Marketing and Market Research.

4. Project Management.

5. Business Informatics.

6. Quantitative Methods.

The Major programme in Tourism and Hospitality Management covers the scientific scope of Tourism Business Administration in terms of achieving time-scheduling and resource planning objectives, cost management, and human and material resources management.

Learning outcomes

Students attending the Business Administration Programme should acquire the following knowledge and skills:

1.   Understanding of specialization fields for solving business problems and addressing business opportunities.

2.   Knowledge of the business and legal environment and ability to identify and anticipate the risks and opportunities presented.

3.   Knowledge and skills in applying mathematics and statistics to quantitative analysis and documentation.

4.   Knowledge and abilities to use the new digital technologies as applied to the management of businesses and organizations.

5.   Knowledge of behavioural science and effective human resource management skills.

6.   Knowledge of Financial Management and Accounting.

7.   Planning, using the scientific / analytical methods and resources required to successfully complete a project, setting feasible goals.

8.   Applying state-of-the-art scientific and technological methods and practices to the management of a project in order to effectively manage and achieve the objectives set.

9.   Making decisions related to the allocation of resources used during a project in order to achieve their optimal allocation and utilization.

10. Knowledge to undertake project planning studies for companies and organizations.

11. Knowledge of marketing techniques and tools.

12. Knowledge and skills to work as executives in Hotels, Travel Agencies, Restaurants, Bars and as Tourism Officers in general.
