May 31st World No Tobacco Day: Anti-smoking messages from the French Cinema and Theatre

The Pneumonology Clinic of the University of Thessaly, participating in the celebration for the 30th anniversary of the foundation of the University of Thessaly, and the French Institute in Larissa, in collaboration with the Theatre of Thessaly and the Film and Theatre Group of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology organize an ant-smoking event on Thursday 31 May, at 20.00, in the yard of the French Institute of Larissa.

This year’s message is to make each day a non-smoking day, aiming to eliminate passive smoking, promote ways to quit smoking, and raise awareness about the adverse effects of smoking.

Excerpts from the French Cinema, depicting its deep connection to smoking, will be shown as well as the well-known one-act play by Chekhov ‘The Harmful Effects of Tobacco’, and two one-act plays by Sofia Gourgouliani.  The students: Charouli Myrto, Alexandros Zafranasand Vangelis Pappas participate in the plays. Directed by Stamatia Kagelari.

Ms Chrysa Voulgarakis, director of the French Institute of Larissa and Professor of Pneumonology, Zoe Daniil, will give speeches.

The student Thodoris Repanas will musically accompany the event.

Comments and concerns resulting from the screening of the excerpts, the plays and the music programme will constitute our own message against smoking.
