Honorary Doctors of the Medical School of the School of Health Sciences Hans-Henning Eckstein and Natzi Sakalihasan

The Rector of the University of Thessaly, Professor Georgios Petrakos and the Vice President of the Department of Medicine of the School of Health Sciences Professor Christakis Hadjichristodoulou are honored to invite you to a special event organized by the University of Thessaly to commemorate Professors Hans-Henning Eckstein and Natzi Sakalihasan, during which they will be awarded Honorary Doctorates of the Faculty of Medicine of the School of Health Sciences.
The ceremony will take place at the "Hippocrates" Amphitheater, in Viopolis, Larissa, on Tuesday 22 May 2018, at 19:00.
During the event, the Vice Rector of Research, Professor Zissis Moumouris, of the University of Thessaly will give a formal salutation to Professors Hans-Henning Eckstein and Natzi Sakalihasan. The Dean of the School of Health Sciences, Professor Charalambos Bilinis, will also formally address Professor Hans-Henning Eckstein and the Professor of Vascular Surgery Athanasios Giannoukas will award Professor Hans-Henning Eckstein for his excellence.  Professor of Vascular Surgery, Matsagas Miltiadis, will award Professor Natzi Sakalihasanfor his excellence. The recitation of the granting of the honorary Doctoral Diploma will be conducted by Vice President of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Christakis Hadjichristodoulou.
The event will end with speeches by the honored Professors and a short musical event will follow.


Hans-Henning Eckstein is Professor of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the Technische Universität München, Germany
Head of the Department for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Klinikum rechts der Isar der Technischen Universität München (TUM). Professor Hans-Henning Eckstein is one of the world's most well-known scientists in the field of vascular surgery with innovative research and applied clinical work. A large number of Greek vascular surgeons have been trained in his Clinic who either have returned in Greece making a career or have a brilliant career in Germany. Also, Professor Hans-Henning Eckstein has developed a long collaboration with the Vascular Surgery Clinic of the University of Thessaly and with the Vascular Surgery community of our country while he is fond of the Greek culture. Finally, on account of his overall contribution, Professor Hans-Henning Eckstein has been granted an Honorary Doctorate from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens. Professor of Cardio-Vascular Surgery, University of Liege, Liege, Belgium, Director of Surgical Research Center, GIGA, Cardio-Vascular Sciences, University of Liege, Liege Belgium. Professor Natzi Sakalihasan is one of the world's most well-known scientists in the research of congenital and acquired aortic diseases having received grants from large international organizations for his research. A large number of Greek vascular surgeons / Principal Scientists have been trained / worked in his Clinic and Laboratory. Also, Professor Natzi Sakalihasan has built a long collaboration with the Vascular Surgery Clinic of the University of Thessaly, including co-supervision in a Ph.D. Thesis. It is worth mentioning that he has a Pomakic origin and he was born in Komotini. He loves Greece and considers it his homeland, possessing a Greek passport, and he intends to reside permanently in Skiathos after his retirement, where he already has a house. Finally, his volunteer work is remarkable, visiting developing countries (Vietnam) to operate pro bono on young children with congenital heart disease and adults with aortic disease, also donating multiple times medical disposables to the General University Hospital of Larissa.
